Whilst taking a family stroll in the quiet streets of Birkirkara one day, Charlotte insisted on trying on my dark sunglasses and carrying my rather large (for her) handbag – making her even more of a novelty than usual! Her blonde, curly hair and blue eyes certainly grabbed the attention of passers-by and Doris, our maid, would love putting her in her pram and wheeling her off to one of her numerous relatives, carefully guarding her from over enthusiastic aunts who wanted to pick her up.
